@Curly: yes, quite often the dead would be buried by the p.o.w's and often was delayed fir several days after the battle. the pics of dead civil war soldiers that became famous were made several days after the conflict. the union would bury their own first and then leave the field and require the captured confederates to bury their own kia. if interested, see William Frassanito's studies of the battle of Gettysburg and Antietam. thanks for your visit and comment!
